BPM 37093 est une étoile qui était très similaire au soleil et qui est aujourd'hui morte. Des scientifiques ont découverts qu'en mourant, l'étoile s'est presque entièrement transformée en diamant, comme le fera le soleil dans des milliards d'années. La vidéo est une représentation fantasmatique de ce phénomène scientifique. Elle utilise la modélisation 3D, outil privilégié par le documentaire et le cinéma pour traiter de phénomènes astronomiques. L’animation détourne cette technique perçue comme réaliste pour illustrer la manière dont notre compréhension de certains phénomènes naturels dont la perception nous est inaccessible repose sur des informations fragmentaires, des représentations et des associations hallucinées.

BPM 37093 is a dead star that was very similar to the sun. Scientists have discovered that in dying, the star has almost completely transformed into diamond—as the sun will, billions of years from now. The video is a fantastical depiction of this scientific phenomena made using 3D modelling, a tool often employed in realist documentary and cinematic work dealing with the subject. The animation diverts this technique to illustrate the way in which our understanding of natural phenomena that is imperceptible to the eye rests on fragmentary information, representations, and hallucinatory associations.

Bio

Julie Tremble est une artiste de la vidéo et de l’animation. Nourrie par le cinéma, les sciences naturelles, la littérature et la philosophie, elle s’intéresse aux constituants de l'univers, aux états de la matière et à leurs représentations. En mettant en scène des théories et enquêtes scientifiques, elle produit des science-fiction expérimentales, contemplatives et hallucinées.

Julie Tremble détient une maîtrise en études cinématographiques de l’Université de Montréal (2005) ainsi qu’un baccalauréat combinant cinéma et philosophie (2000). Son travail a été présenté au Canada et à l’international, dans des centres d’art parmi lesquels : le Museum Ludwig (Budapest), Dazibao, la Fonderie Darling et la Galerie Joyce Yahouda (Montréal), STUDIOTELUS du Grand Théâtre de Québec et VU (Québec), la Galerie d’art Foreman et Sporobole (Sherbrooke) ainsi que lors de différents festivals dont le Mirage Festival (Lyon), Mapping (Genève) le Festival du nouveau cinéma et le Festival international du film sur l’art (Montréal), Images Festival (Toronto), la triennale Espace [IM] Média (Sherbrooke) et ARKIPEL – Jakarta International Documentary and Experimental Film Festival. En 2013, elle reçoit le prix du CALQ pour la meilleure oeuvre d’art et d’expérimentation.

Elle a également présenté son travail lors des conférences internationales multidisciplinaires : rencontre biennale de l’International Society for the History Philosophy and Social Studies of Biology (Université de Toronto) et Origine de la vie, discours et représentation (Acfas, Université de Montréal). En 2023, elle a été accueillie en résidence de recherche à l'Institut de science et ingénierie supramoléculaires de Strasbourg (ISIS).





Bio

Julie Tremble is a video and animation artist. Nourished among other things by cinema, natural sciences, literature and philosophy, it is interested in the constituents of the universe, the states of matter and their representations.
By staging scientific theories and investigations, she produces experimental, contemplative, and hallucinatory science fiction.

Julie Tremble holds a Master's degree in Film Studies from the Université de Montréal (2005) and a Bachelor's degree combining cinema and philosophy (2000). Her work has been presented in Canada and internationally, in art centers including the Museum Ludwig (Budapest), Dazibao, the Darling Foundry and the Joyce Yahouda Gallery (Montreal), STUDIOTELUS at the Grand Théâtre de Québec and VU (Quebec City), the Foreman Art Gallery and Sporobole (Sherbrooke), as well as at various festivals including the Mirage Festival (Lyon), Mapping (Geneva), the Festival du nouveau cinéma and the International Festival of Films on Art (Montreal), Images Festival (Toronto), the Espace [IM] Média triennial (Sherbrooke), and ARKIPEL – Jakarta International Documentary and Experimental Film Festival. In 2013, she received the CALQ Award for Best Art and Experimental Work. 

She also presented her work at international multidisciplinary conferences: the biennal meeting of  The International Society for the History, Philosophy, and Social Studies of Biology (ISHPSSB) (University of Toronto) and Origin of Life, Discourse and Representation (Acfas, University of Montreal). In 2023, she was hosted for a  research residency at the Institute of Supramolecular Science and Engineering in Strasbourg (ISIS).
